REMOTE CLINICAL TESTING
Dermaself is an AI skin measurement platform for cosmetic testing laboratories, CROs and brand R&D teams. It analyzes standardized photos of each volunteer at baseline and at every study check-point, measures 60+ skin parameters and automatically shows whether the skin has improved or worsened.

Dermaself applies the same AI measurement to every photo, every volunteer and every visit, automating the repetitive scoring of study images. Volunteers take standardized photos with a smartphone at home or in the lab, and the platform compares each check-point with the baseline.

HOW IT WORKS
A study with Dermaself follows five steps, from setup to results. The testing laboratory keeps control of the protocol, the volunteers and the final study report.
Dermaself measures 60+ skin parameters grouped into 9 areas, and your team selects the ones relevant to the study protocol. The number of parameters can vary with the capture type: selfie or professional imaging.
USE CASES
The platform is designed for organizations that run or commission cosmetic efficacy studies and need consistent skin measurement on large cohorts.
Dermaself combines AI built for skin measurement with the scientific grounding of Derming, an independent clinical research institute with more than 30 years of experience in dermatological research.
Derming, based in Monza (Italy), is an independent research institute that runs studies on the activity and tolerance of skincare products. Dermaself's skin taxonomy was developed and validated by Derming on more than 100,000 clinical images, reviewed by skin specialists and board-certified dermatologists.
Patent-pending color normalization corrects light and color in every photo, so captures taken at home stay comparable from one check-point to the next.
Patent-pending 3D anonymization removes the volunteer's biometric identity from the image irreversibly, while keeping the skin data needed for analysis.
Quick answers on AI skin measurement for efficacy studies
Dermaself measures each volunteer's photos with the same AI model and the same criteria at baseline and at every check-point, then calculates the change for each skin parameter. The result shows whether a parameter improved, stayed stable or worsened during the study, for each volunteer and for the whole cohort.
Yes. With Dermaself, volunteers can take standardized photos at home with a smartphone as well as in the lab, because light and color are corrected on every image. Remote capture keeps check-points comparable and makes it possible to include volunteers who cannot travel to the testing site.
No. Dermaself automates the repetitive scoring of study images and applies the same criteria at every visit, while study design, expert evaluation and final conclusions remain with the testing laboratory. On repeated measurements of the same skin, Dermaself's AI shows a repeatability of 0.92–0.93.
Dermaself anonymizes facial images irreversibly before analysis: patent-pending 3D anonymization removes biometric identity while keeping the skin data. Data protection terms for each study are agreed with the testing laboratory before the study starts.
A remote study with Dermaself can start 5 days after setup begins. During setup the laboratory chooses the skin parameters and check-points for its protocol. The platform supports studies with up to 10,000 volunteers, so cohort size is not limited by on-site capacity.
Tell us about your study design, cohort size and check-points, and we will prepare a proposal for your laboratory.
